Song of the Day – “Name’s the same” Tuesday – “Just One Look”

Doris Troy – Bryan Ferry

The late Doris Troy made a fine career for herself as a backup singer, but her biggest claim to fame was as the composer and singer of this classic from 1963. Linda Ronstadt did a great remake, but even her terrific voice was just a slight polish of the original monster hit.

Bryan Ferry also gave us just one look on his 1993 album Taxi. The thing is, I’m trying to slip a fast one by on you. This is the same song written by Gregory Carroll and Doris Troy; it’s just that he changes the melody and arrangement so much that it really is completely different. A close listen to the lyrics is the only reason you would know.
