Song of the Day – “Me and the Farmer” – The Housemartins

Paul Heaton (later of The Beautiful South) and Norman Cook (later Fatboy Slim) have always had a way of creating sunny songs with pointed lyrics. Here in the Housemartins song from 1987, they talk about the treatment of workers by gentleman farmers.

He’s chopped down sh*t, planted trees
And helped the countryside to breathe
Ripped up fields, bullied flocks
And worked his workers right around the clock
