Song of the Day – “You Can Call Me Al” – Paul Simon

When was Chevy Chase last relevant? If you say about the time he lip-synced the video to “You Can Call Me Al”, well, that would make it 28 years ago. Sounds about right.

Paul Simon shows in this song about the ravages of middle age that he pays attention to the sounds of the words he uses.  Incidents and accidents, hints and allegations, scatterlings and orphanages, angels in the architecture – these phrases all sound good, even if you’re not exactly sure what he means when he uses them.
