Song of the Day – “Name’s the same” Tuesday – “When You Were Mine”

Cyndi Lauper – Ian MacNabb

I think it’s pretty much unanimous that Lauper’s version of “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” is better than the original by Robert Hazard. But this song, also from She’s So Unusual, was not only written by Prince, but also doesn’t stray too far from the Purple One’s version.

I’d still give the edge to Cyndi, though, because “you were kinda sorta my best friend” sounds more natural coming from her.

.

Ian, lead singer for The Icicle Works, was featured just a little over four weeks ago for his solo work. But here he performs an acoustic version of an Icicle Works song that was originally on their 1987 album with a long name: If You Want to Defeat Your Enemy Sing His Song.
