Song of the Day – “Name’s the same” Tuesday – “Lullaby”

The Cure – Joe Jackson

Two tracks from artists who don’t seem to get the idea of a lullaby.

Quietly he laughs and shaking his head
Creeps closer now, closer to the foot of the bed
And softer than shadow and quicker than flies
His arms are all around me and his tongue in my eyes

Yikes! “Can’t sleep – clown will eat me” – Bart Simpson

.

This track from Jackson’s little-known 1994 album features a wordless vocal from lyric soprano Renée Fleming.

The moon is growing cold
It hangs like a sliver of tin
How do our dreams unfold
And why are my bones feeling thin

Perhaps it’s better not to listen to Jackson’s lyrics if you actually want to get some sleep, either.
