Song of the Day – “Wunderbar” – Tenpole Tudor

As much as I would like this to be a cover of Cole Porter’s tune from Kiss Me Kate, it’s actually kind of a punk pirate mashup.

The band was a Stiff Records singing (surprise), fronted by Eddie Tudorpole.

Song of the Day – “Hardy Country” – Summers/Fripp

Andy Summers of the Police and Robert Fripp of King Crimson (and numerous other collaborations) did a couple of albums together in the mid eighties. They were dreamy and complex, just as you might imagine. This one is from I Advance Masked.

Song of the Day – “Sally MacLennane” – The Pogues

Shane MacGowan and the boys know their way around an Irish drinking song.

Well Jimmy played harmonica in the pub where I was born
He played it from the night time to the peaceful early morn
He soothed the souls of psychos and the men who had the horn
And they all looked very happy in the morning

Song of the Day – “Come and Get Your Love” – Redbone

A song introduced to an enormous new audience through use in Guardians of the Galaxy. Originally on the Native American band’s 1973 album Wovoka.

Song of the Day – “Girl at the End of the Pier” – Graham Parker

Kind of mid-period Parker, 20 years after he started and nearly twenty years ago. It’s from 1996’s Acid Bubblegum.

It’s kind of a throwback song, an end-of-summer elegy to a girl from the boardwalk. Gotta love it.

As the twilight was returning
And the sun began to fall
I walked down to the beachfront
And watched the whitecaps roll
A flare exploded over the ocean an orange tear
Then I saw at the corner of my eye
The girl at the end of the pier

iPhoneography Apps – Brushstroke Part 2: Canvas the area

In part 1 of my article on Brushstroke, I covered the painting and color presets. Part two covers the finishing touches: adding texture with the underlying Canvas; Adjusting the painting; and adding a signature to your work.

The image I’ll be using is a portrait of my wife. The background was lightened and blurred with iColorama to let her features stand out.

Song of the Day – “New Music” Wednesday – “Dark Rip” – Teen Girl Scientist Monthly

What, like I’m not going to like a band called Teen Girl Scientist Monthly? Please.

Gleeful punk-pop, with a video full of snap-pans and ninjas. Their brand-new album is Hyper Trophy, and you can hear it at their Bandcamp site.
