Song of the Day – “Name’s the same” Tuesday – “She’s the One”

Bruce Springsteen – The Chartbusters

Springsteen’s first two albums were obviously highly influenced by Dylan, with long rambling tunes full of words but not strong on melody and songcraft.

Along came 1975, and Born to Run, and suddenly the songs became tighter, with recognizable verses, chorus and bridge. And I became a fan.

This song is a particular favorite of mine in the studio version. This faster, tricked-up version surprisingly does not bother me at all, even though it’s totally different.

.

Supposedly the Chartbusters were one of the inspirations for “That Thing You Do”. This was their only Top 40 hit, cresting at #33 in 1964.

One of the many “false ending” songs, that seem to end but are resuscitated with a cry of “one more time!”
