Song of the Day – “Rocky Road Blues” – Gene Vincent

It was a mixing of genres that brought about rock ‘n’ roll. Add a boogie-woogie piano to a tune penned by the father of bluegrass, Bill Monroe, and, all of a sudden, you have a rockabilly classic. From 1956.

I leave it as an exercise for the listener to look up the version done by Monroe and his Bluegrass Boys (including Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs). It’s a winner.
