Song of the Day – “Name’s the same” Tuesday – “Rawhide”

The Blues Brothers – Link Wray

What better tune for Jake and Elwood to play when faced by a bar full of drunk good old boys than one penned by a Russian named Dimitri Tiomkin? Tiomkin was a soundtrack master, and composed the theme for the Western TV series that ran from 1959-1965.

You know, that crowd threw just as many bottles when they liked the music as when they hated it. Sure can confuse a fella.

.

Wray had just hit the big time with “Rumble” in 1959, and “Rawhide” (sometimes spelled “Raw-Hide”) was his second hit, getting to #23. What better place to show his talents than on the Bandstand in front of a bunch of self-conscious, rhythmically-impaired white kids?
