Song of the Day – “Blue Rondo à la Turk” – Dave Brubeck

Brubeck was a pianist who helped define West Coast jazz. His album Time Out, which explored different rhythms, was justly famous when it exploded onto the scene in the late fifties. But don’t stop there; check out his career-spanning retrospective, Time Signatures.

Dave Brubeck passed away last week at the age of 91. Many people have posted versions of “Take Five” as a tribute, but I decided on another track, “Blue Rondo à la Turk”. It’s in 9/8 time, and is ably supported by the always-terrific Paul Desmond on sax.
