Song of the Day – “Name’s the same” Tuesday – “On the Radio”

Donna Summer – Regina Spektor – Cheap Trick

One drawback (of the many) of disco is that it really doesn’t reward great singers. Donna Summer, the gorgeous woman with the solid gold pipes, sounds much better on the beginning of the song before the drum machine kicks in. That mechanical lockstep encourages singers to get through the song, rather than singing it.

I love the video of this song from Spektor’s Begin to Hope, because it shows the joy of musical instruction in schools. You don’t have to be musically talented to benefit from musical classes, and these kids realize that instinctively.

I could not leave out this great power pop song from Cheap Trick’s 1978 album. Heaven Tonight. Enjoy the extra music!
