Song of the Day – “Name’s the same” Tuesday – “Quittin’ Time”

Mary Chapin Carpenter – International Kansas City Playboys

Mary Chapin Carpenter has always operated on the fringe of country music; she’s really more folk. But this tune from State of the Heart is about as “country” as she gets.

.

Can’t really find much about the International Kansas City Playboys, other than that composer Jack Taylor probably recorded them in Detroit, where the Wheelsville USA label originated. Released in 1965.

(By the way, I would have included “Quitting Time” by the Roches if I hadn’t already featured it in April of 2012.)
